Diverse Conception = Various Conceptions

Here goes...

I got back from Japan last week to work on something I felt we needed in store. We found an accessory label from Japan a long time ago that is also represented by the fine folks at Shop Gentei in Baltimore. For a long time now, we have been trying to get in touch with the label via email and phone but no luck. This is why I got a good friend of mine to hook me up and get in touch with them. We finally got an appointment to meet with them and this is why we weren't hesitant to head down there. Even flying economy wasn't so bad knowing that there was a possibility to secure the deal.

The people we went down to meet were the good people at Garni. Only good things could be said about these guys right off the bat. Started in 1997 in Tokyo, Garni began as an accessory label and has now diversified by adding more lifestyle-oriented products to their lineup. These guys also started a recording label to further their love for music.

At their studio, I met with the three masterminds behind the label. These guys are as small and independent as they get. All jewellery is designed and moulded right at their workshop by the man himself, Eiji Furuya. The dude is an artist in his own right and truly loves what he does. That's why his stuff is so damn good.

They agreed to supply us the goods and made special mention of our website, store interior and general creative direction. We are now waiting for the right time to display them in a dedicated space in the store. Another successful coup. Good to have them on board and we look forward to forging a solid relationship with those guys.

Garni will be exclusive to know it nothing in Singapore.

Knockumentary

Some of you may not know but we're big on the fight game in this store. To those of you that are not too familiar with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), 'The Smashing Machine' is a great documentary that provides the most real insight into the life of MMA fighter Mark Kerr. It highlights his personal battles with pain killer addiction, alcohol abuse and a manipulative girlfriend whilst trying to stay on top of the MMA world. He constantly numbs himself to try and ready his body and mind for his next opponent.

The extent of what some of these fighters go through to make a living instills nothing else but true respect for them. A great documentary and definitely one that will keep anyone out there grounded and grateful.

If we could stock it in store, we would. Go out and grab a copy today. It sure beat binge drinking on a Saturday night.

Swapmeet Recap

No surprises here, another solid event organized by the boys back home. Those people keep outdoing themselves each time out.

The event featured a tonne of good kicks and clothing on offer (could've sworn I saw the Vans "Troops of Tomorrow" sample...Madness!!). The highlight of the event was all of the new designs from all of the regulars including Footurama, WhatNot, Darbotz, etc. We also got to see some crazy shit from the guys behind Bush and Notorious Fam. Those people are definitely going to keep churning out the stuff people want to see. Ups to them.

People in Singapore will also get to see Darbotz in action at our September event. This time he won't be posted behind a stall.

I got to meet some familiar faces from back home that I have seen at our store over here. Always good to shoot the shit with them and get their feedback. To those that I met, thanks for your support and good words. That's as valuable as your money to me which is why we decided to give back to you all. To those that won our prizes, I hope you guys are repping New Balance well.

As always, Public took care of all of us. By far one of the best designed bars in Indonesia. They finally realized that they could make the place look 'that' good without having to spend all 'that' mad money they spent last time. The place has a similar aesthetic to our store. A lot of wire mesh and bare bulbs.

The beer was flowing, burgers were off the hook, the music got a good vibe going and the people from back home made it the event that it was. Definitely the best way to kill a Sunday. The scene in Indonesia is moving in the right direction. I look forward to more of these.

Enjoy the photographs.

Giving Back

This weekend marks the 3rd installment of the Footurama Swapmeet. After 2 successful events, it wasn't gonna be long before those guys organized a third one.

This will be the first one that we will be a part of. And just to show gratitude to all the Indonesian people that have come and shown support in store, we will be sponsoring some giveaways. If you're in Jakarta this weekend, be sure to show up down there for some Booze, Shoes and Food. Those three things always make for a good day.

We'll be giving out 2 pairs of the Atmos x New Balance 1500's. 1 in Green and 1 in Pink.

Sole Obsession will also be sponsoring some free T-Shirts.

See you this weekend.

White Elephant on Haji Lane

Sunday misery was put to a stop on the 22nd of July. It brought about the White Elephant Flea Market on Haji Lane. Everyone came out in full force on a good day and set up stalls outside all of the stores on the street.

All of the stalls showcased some real deals. On offer were used and new t-shirts, kicks, accessories and what not. Some came out rich and some came out more broke. Some real hustlas around that day.

Throughout our time on Haji Lane, never have we witnessed so many people on the street. Ups to Javier and Sid for organizing an event that will benefit all of us in the long-run. Expect more of these to come by every month or two.

Enjoy the pictures.
